About the Artist
Sarai Mayer is Washoe on her father’s side and Thai on her mother’s side. She recently graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle, with a Bachelor of Science in Plant Biology and a minor in American Indian Studies. She is currently enrolled in the Science Illustration program at California State University, Monterey Bay, and is scheduled to graduate at the end of the year.
Sarai uses her background in botany to inform her work as a scientific and botanical illustrator, celebrating the spirit of plants with scientific accuracy. She is passionate about plants and their integral role in achieving a sustainable future, and is particularly interested in projects concerning Indigenous land stewardship, ecological restoration, and the preservation of biodiversity.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading, swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding, hiking, carving, beading, and tattooing.
